CO2 and GreenHouse Gas Emissions
CO2 is a type of carbon gas found in natural resources such as fossil fuels. All forms of energy production, such as central heating, electricity, water, which are based on fossil fuels, emit greenhouse gasses calculated as CO2e.
What do I need to know?
CO2 is carbon dioxide, usually in a gaseous state. Most activities either have embedded CO2 emissions or emit CO2 during their activities.
Often you will also see CO2e, which means CO2 equivalent and includes all gasses that are similar to CO2 and have the same environmental impact.
CO2 is important and very controversial because it affects the temperature of the earth. CO2 accumulates in the atmosphere and has the same effect as if you covered yourself with a blanket. It stops the heat of the earth from disappearing.
Is it relevant for me?
As a commercial building owner, real estate developer or property manager, you are subject to significant CO2 reporting requirements in the EU. This means that you must be able to document your CO2 emissions.
